We have an immediate opening for an Industrial Packer to be responsible for the safe handling and packaging of aluminum coils as per customer specifications. In addition, the Packer is responsible for safely fulfilling orders by arranging packed inventory and preparing them for shipment. These duties also include interpreting orders to determine which coils need to be sent out, performing quality control assessments, and loading/staging coils safely and securely in the shipment containers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Adhere to all JSA’s (Job Safety Analysis) and Standard Work Instructions.
  • Assist in writing and reviewing operational and safety JSAs to improve procedures as well as develop new JSAs based on observations and experiences.
  • Ensure proper packaging of material-checking production orders, skids, boxes/wrapping.
  • Ensure packaging is neat and as per the work order and customer specifications.
  • Using the IQMS software system, produce shipping labels per customer specifications.
  • Measure and weigh products and materials
  • Use tape, banding, paper, or shrink wrap to secure material on crates, racks, or skids.
  • Ensure material is packed in order of priority according to the ship dates per the work order.
  • Inspect material/product for any potential defects and report any quality concerns.
  • Accurately record product, packaging and order information on specified forms, records, or electronic systems, i.e., IQMS Software
  • Maintain clean and organized work environment, keeping work areas clear of trash, scrap aluminum or other debris.
  • Comply with all quality related policies, procedures, and system requirements.
  • Assist maintenance team with diagnosis and troubleshooting issues with the equipment.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Staging and removing coils at the slitters.
  • Loading and Unloading trucks safely.
  • Safely operating overhead cranes, pallet jacks, and forklift trucks to transport metal and materials to and from the equipment as necessary.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work Rotating Shifts.
  • Ability to work 12-hour Shifts.
  • Ability to work Mandatory Overtime.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and specifications.
  • Basic Microsoft Computer skills
  • Basic Math Skills
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision or in a team environment.
  • Diligence with the ability to identify defects and suggest corrections.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle many concurrent activities while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to perform all essential physical functions of working in a manufacturing environment such as, climbing, standing, bending, reaching, and squatting.
  • Must be able to lift to fifty pounds.
  • Hands to finger use – fine motor skills such as, turning, grasping, pinching, wrapping, writing, typing, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Working with and near electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment.
  • Computer work includes processing labels for customer identification and shipment.
  • Working in an uncontrolled climate.
  • Rotating shift work and overtime required.
